John Lightman has played bass with some of Memphis' most talented musicians in some very memorable bands since the sixties among whom are Alex Chilton (John played bass with Big Star during their power pop trio phase in 1974), Jimi Jamison, Lamar Sorrento, Jim Dickinson and many others, who have made their mark in the music world. A lifelong fan of many types of music, John began playing jazz in 2000. His influences on bass are as numerous and varied as his taste in musical styles, yet his preference is for players who anchor songs with a solid groove.

While John has co-produced several albums throughout the years, his first project as sole producer came in 2007 with T.J. Graham's masterpiece CD, "Small Day Tomorrow," which features some of the finest musicians in the world. One reason John enjoys playing with Jazmine so much is because it's so easy for him to lock in with Barry Johnson on drums. John and Barry have played together since 1968 which explains why when they play its like listening to the core of a rhythm section that’s nothing less than a well-oiled machine!

When John met T.J. in 2001 he immediately knew he had found the singer he had been hoping for his entire life. With her heartfelt, elegant style, TJ has become an inspiration and ideal interpreter of John's original compositions.
